　　20世纪80年代，胜利钢铁厂子弟陈桂林（李乃文 饰）和女友一起参加高考，他对未来有着极其美好和文艺的设想，但是梦想往往和现实有着巨大差距。桂林高考失败，而成功考取的女友则毅然决然和他分手。在此之后，他顶替父亲进入钢铁厂工作，并在工作中和吕淑娴（汪洋 饰）与薛小菊（原雨 饰）两位美丽女孩熟稔。也许桂林注定离理想中的幸福就差半步，他没能和两情相悦的淑娴走入婚礼殿堂，而是与小菊组成家庭。时光荏苒，当年的大男孩大闺女们渐渐成熟，阅历悄悄爬上他们的面颊。　　当考验和磨难接踵而来之际，友情与亲情变得弥足珍贵……
