　　1966年夏天，迎接暑假到来的三姊弟，一如往常地嬉戏玩乐，与家人讨论暑假的旅游计划。看似和乐的家庭，直到母亲意外得知父亲不可告人的秘密后，逐渐崩解。这回透过小孩们的无奈答话，充分展现二战之后逐渐弥漫的保守氛围，并讥讽当时社会的道德假面。

　　马蒂厄已经35岁，却从未见过自己的父亲。母亲解释缘由时只推托说他是一夜情的结果。一天，他接到一个陌生来电，这个电话告诉他，他的亲生父亲刚刚过世。于是马蒂厄暂别妻子和孩子，决定飞去加拿大参加葬礼，并见见他那两个素未谋面的兄弟。在蒙特利尔，除了父亲的好友皮埃尔，没人知道他的存在与真实身份。但与此同时，马蒂厄也意识到他似乎进入了一个充满敌意的地方。

　　19世纪70年代，与世隔绝的丹麦北部的小村庄。一对督信路德教的姐妹花玛蒂娜（比尔吉特·费德施皮尔 Birgitte Federspiel 饰）和菲丽帕（博迪尔·吉尔 Bodil Kjer 饰）平日里深居简出，在做牧师的父亲的引导下，不惜牺牲爱情，全身心地献身于宗教事业。好心的姐妹二人收留了一个由巴黎避乱而来的女子巴贝特（斯蒂芬妮·奥德安 Stéphane Audran 饰）。身世神秘的巴贝特原来是法国餐厅的名厨。巴贝特幸运地获得了法国巨额彩金一万法郎，为了回报这对好心的姐妹，巴贝特决定在两姐妹父亲的忌辰时亲自掌厨，为村民奉上一桌正宗丰盛的法国大餐。　　本片根据丹麦女作家伊萨克·迪纳森的小说改编而成，荣获1988年第60届奥斯卡金像奖最佳外语片大奖，并获得1987年第40届戛纳电影节天主教人道奖，以及1989年第46届金球奖最佳外语片提名。
